  • Overview

    The Junior Database Administrator executes changes to computer databases, and tests and implements the database applying knowledge of database management systems. He/she plans, coordinates, and implements security measures to safeguard computer databases. Responsibilities must be performed in accordance with all Company standards, policies, and procedures.

    Essential Functions

    • Be responsible for practicing, supporting, and promoting Thunder Valley Casino Resort’s "Winning Attitude" company-wide culture and demonstrating AAA Four Diamond service standards at all times. 
    • Review procedures in database management system manuals for making changes to database.
    • Modify existing databases and database management systems or directs programmers and analysts to make changes.
    • Plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.
    • Develop standards and guidelines to govern the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information.
    • Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to serve as a source of information and advice for upper management.
    • Test programs or databases, correct errors and make necessary modifications.
    • Develop methods for integrating different products so they work properly together, such as customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs.
    • Approve, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems, such as the installation of new databases.
    • Specify users and user access levels for each segment of database.
    • Establish and calculate optimum values for database parameters, using manuals and calculator.
    • Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project.
    • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends.
    • Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms.
    • Install and configure new SQL Servers.
    • Deploy database change scripts provided by third party vendors.
    • When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including server configuration changes or index/query changes.
    • Document the database environment.
    • Ensure all database servers are backed up.
    • Regularly test backups to ensure the accuracy of the data.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must have a Bachelor’s degree or at least one (1) year of database administration experience. 
    • Database Administration certification is preferred. 
    • Ability to communicate effectively with Team Members and Management in both written and verbal form.
    • Must be familiar with SQL Server.
    • Must be familiar with a variety of the concepts, practices, and procedures in the field of database administration.
    • Ability to work with in a team as well as autonomously.
    • Ability to write efficient, complex SQL queries.
    • Must be familiar with RDBMS concepts.
    • Solid analysis and problem solving skills are required. 
    • Must be at least 21 years of age.
